TreeHugger asks readers to vote for CleanTechies as “Best Business Blog”

Since we announced that CleanTechies got nominated as “Best Business Blog 2008“, green-minded citizens all over the world have been showing tremendous support and commitment in helping CleanTechies win this award. Today, our site was acknowledged by TreeHugger, the green voice on the Internet, asking all of its readers to vote for CleanTechies:
“CleanTechies beat out 5,000 blogs for a spot as a finalist in the “Best Business Blog” award competition. But what makes this such an achievement is that it was the only green blog in the category. Read on for what you can do to help this green blog get some recognition.”
Other sites have picked up the news, including Daily Kos, Get Your Green On, Green Future Now, CleanTech GreenTech, Only Hybrids and Change.org, throwing in their support for the green cause. While this attention by the media is extremely helpful, we need all votes we can get to win this award.
So please keep on voting, and support the green movement. You can vote once every 24 hours, and a lot of you have been doing so this week – thanks a lot for that. With your vote and by encouraging other people to vote, we might help to get this industry the increased attention it needs for the sake of the environment and the economy. It would be an important statement about the maturity of the industry for a cleantech blog to win “Best Business Blog of 2008.”

That’s great, but it seems that a corporate-sponsored blog (Deep Capture) is going to win. That’s a sad commentary for our times, and indicates that this award is of little value.
I posted earlier and it was deleted. I’m certain I didn’t violate any rules of conduct.
I would like to tell you that deepcapture is personally supported by Patrick Byrne. It is separate from Overstock as it states on the website in the upper left hand corner.
What is sad commentary is that you would feel that if CT won fair & square that would be great but if any other site were to win fair & square then the award is deemed to be of little value. Beyond sad actually.
It’s not separate from Overstock. It says so right in the blog that it was founded by the CEO of Overstock and that if you click on a button you can buy stuff from Overstock.com and a portion of the proceeds go to Deep Capture.

You can’t understand DeepCapture or its value until you read it. I’d copy it here but the pictures and the emails don’t copy…. This is my personal favorite of all the stories so far.

These guys are manipulating stock for profit which is illegal. Can you imagine waking up one day and the whole world knows that you are a corrupt journalist and evidence of your illegal activities is published on the web. Mom used to be soooo proud of little Bethany. These scum didn’t care that they were destroying companies and hurting investors and making life miserable for innocent, hard-working people.
I am not going to argue with you about the coupon. Patrick Byrne most likely takes that amount out of his own pocket. He doesn’t even take a salary. If I remember, the coupon used to be a 5% discount.
DeepCapture is a public service and they encourage people to take whatever information they learn and share it. Do give credit. These guys deserve it.

I read that. It is a smear job on Bethany McLean, who exposed Enron. She was in contact with sources, you got ahold of the emails, and used them to embarrass her by implying she did something wrong when she didn’t. I was curious why you’d do that, so I ran a google and found that she wrote articles critical of Patrick Byrne.
You’re just making me even more disgusted by this whole situation than I was before, so why not quit while you’re ahead.

Do you approve of stock manipulation and the tactics of those who were trying to bring down Fairfax Financial? The various hedge funds were working in concert to profit from illegal activities. They thought they would never be caught. The emails were from discovery in the Fairfax case. There is nothing wrong with bringing such illegal activities to the public’s attention. That is what is so great about the web. You don’t have to own newspaper to get the truth out.
The servers are overloaded at the weblog awards.. lots of activity today. You can get in, but there is a wait. Go vote…
Bethany co-wrote that book with Peter Elkind. He wrote a really good piece about how the class action attorneys who were paying plaintiffs got caught. It is one of the best articles I’ve ever read.
That’s what I mean by a smear job. Your website accused Bethany McLean of stock manipulation without a shred of evidence, based on emails that don’t prove anything. Now you’re repeating that here which should not be allowed. Take your stock market and media conspiracies elsewhere, corporate hack. You bought the election. Be happy. Now you can go away.
