Smart, Eager and Cost Effective...

This weekend is important as both IESE (Barcelona) and Wharton (Philadelphia) are holding competitions and conferences surrounding sustainability.

Thinking locally (for me anyway):

Bay Area startups looking for some “cost effective” strategic help, here is some free strategic help: Invest a couple of hours in mid-March, and send someone to talk to students looking for some experience and a chance to prove their mettle.

UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business Energy & Cleantech Firm Night (March 16)

On Monday, March 16, the Haas School of Business at Berkeley will host an Energy & CleanTech “Firm” Night from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm (almost sounds dirty, doesn’t it?). It is an opportunity for startups to meet over 60 Haas MBA students who are targeting careers in energy and cleantech.  Whether you are looking to hire for full-time or summer positions or simply build a recruiting presence, the Energy & Clean Tech Firm Night is a chance for you and your team to connect with top MBA talent.

I hung out with these guys early this week; they are bright and would be a bargain at full consulting rates … I was thinking of paying them just to be my friends. HAAS suggests a donation of $50-100 per startup, though if you are as poor as Sand Hill road wants you to be (at least for now), don’t worry, it is a suggested donation. The students will hook you up with a table, light appetizers and refreshments. If you are interested or simply have questions, you can contact Kate Toews (Haas 2010), Co-president of BERC at kate_toews at mba.berkeley.edu before March 3.

University of San Francisco MBA Careers Fair (March 17)

The next day USF MBAs will be assembled to poke and prod.  The USF MBA Careers fair will take place on Tuesday, March 17, from 3:30pm to 6 pm in the McLaren Complex on the USF campus.  Again, even if you don’t think you are hiring, you never know who you will meet – it could be your next Director of Business Development.  There is no fee for companies that register before March 6. To register, go to the USF MBA Careers website.  I’m sure Mitchell Friedman would love to chat to you as well, you can find his info on the USF MBA website.
