Event: Explore Sustainable Innovation in Sweden and California

What lessons can California learn from Sweden’s successes in sustainable innovation? What are the California’s energy and environmental goals, and what progress has been made to reach them?
The 2009 Sustainable Innovation Event, presented by the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce San Francisco/Silicon Valley, will discuss these questions and more Monday, Oct. 5 in South San Francisco.

The event has a seasoned panel of keynote speakers including Commissioner James Boyd, Vice Chair of the California Energy Commission, partners from clean tech venture capital firms including Wellington Partners Venture Capital, Ecosystem Ventures and Innovarium Ventures, and various leaders of clean tech companies and organizations such as Stanford University, Suntech America, Lux Research and Science & Technology Attache.
Together, they will examine the sustainability movement in Sweden and California, including Sweden’s successes, how California looks at Sweden as an example for its own aggressive sustainability initiatives, and how these ties can be formalized for possible business collaborations.
Commissioner Boyd will also look into California’s energy and environmental initiatives, exploring state and city goals, possible obstacles, how to overcome potential setbacks, and ties between initiatives in Sweden and California.
Finally, the discussion will explore the latest trends and current funding in sustainable innovation in the green building, solar and biofuels fields.
The Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce San Francisco/Silicon Valley (SACC) was founded in 1948 as a non-profit organization to build and promote a mutual business relationship between Sweden and the United States.
The SACC operates as the main entry point for many Swedish companies in California. It’s the second largest European Chamber of Commerce in the United States, with over 2,300 members servicing 20 regional Swedish-American Chambers of Commerce.
The Swedish Trade Council is co-presenting Monday’s event, held at the Greenv Sustainable Center of South San Francisco.
