A New Window Opens on Solar Power

Earlier this month we wrote about New Energy’s SolarWindow, a solar technology to generate electricity on see-thru glass windows being developed by the company headquartered in Columbia, MD.
The company this week announced another breakthrough. Its researchers have successfully developed a first-generation 12″x12″ working prototype, which is a great increase on its predecessor of 4”X4”, announced last September.
It is the first-ever working SolarWindow of such dimension, said New Energy. It represents a 300% increase in size. In order to make the prototype, researchers used New Energy’s patent-pending process for ‘spraying’ the electricity-generating coatings directly onto glass.
This method has the advantage of eliminating what the company calls “expensive and often cumbersome” high-temperature or high-vacuum production methods commonly used by solar manufacturers.
NewEnergy’s CEO John A. Conklin said that, with this new development, the company is getting closer to the residential and commercial end-user.
