The Superbowl Stats You Didn’t See on ESPN

The San Francisco 49ers just announced plans for a 400 kW solar array at their new stadium. Going solar and going to the Super Bowl – coincidence? At Vote Solar we think not.
In addition to beer, brats and overpriced memorabilia, stadiums across the US are delivering fans clean energy. The Niners will join the ranks of plenty of other pro sports teams all across the country that are harnessing power from the sun.
And the solar champs are….
Baseball: 7 solar teams in the MLB – 299.85 kW total, led by another San Francisco champion, the Giants, with 120kW to their name.
Basketball: 4 solar teams in the NBA – 726.1 kW total, led by the LA Lakers & Clippers claiming 345.6 kW at the Staples Center.
And the real powerhouse . . .
Football: 4 solar teams in the NFL – 3,815 kW total (currently), led by the Washington Redskins at a sizable 2,000 kW. And football is set to widen its lead – another 3,400 kW will go into operation when 2 more under-construction systems are completed for the Philadelphia Eagles and 49ers.
If you want a closer look at those NFL stats, here’s a little breakdown:
The Redskins are far and away the winners in the solar game with 8,000 panels. Though the Jets’ stadium will be adding 1,500 modules to their existing 3,000, and the New England Patriots will be jumping from 525 kW to 1.6 MW just in time for the 2013-2014 season.
