About: Mackinnon Lawrence

Attorney
Mackinnon is an attorney, consultant, and writer with a background in international environmental law and policy and specific expertise in sustainable energy, peak oil, and climate change issues. He is a Co-founder and Principal Consultant with Biomass Advisors, a boutique renewable energy consulting firm helping clients evaluate, plan, and manage investments in biomass energy projects. He has worked with cleantech startup companies to develop strategies to access Stimulus funding and advises clients about renewable energy policy. He began his career working on sustainability and natural resource issues in South Africa as a Fellow with LEAD International analyzing the intersection of population growth, environmental degradation, and development. He edits & publishes Biomass Intel, an online biomass law, policy, and news journal, and is a contributor to CleanTechies and Biofuels Digest, where he writes about renewable energy issues.
Mackinnon holds a JD from American University’s Washington College of Law with an emphasis on international environment law, an MA in Global Environmental Policy from American University’s School of International Service, and a BA in History from Amherst College. He is a member of the California Bar.
