Lufthansa Enters Algae Biofuel Production Deal

Following up on the last blog post about AirBus’s vision of a sustainable future for aviation, we hear that German airline Lufthansa has entered a partnership with Algae.Tec to build a large-scale algae-based jet fuel production facility in Europe.

The agreement is the first step in a long-term cooperation to produce aviation kerosene from crude algae on an industrial scale. (more…)

European Solar Capacity Grew in 2011 Despite Subsidy Cuts

Installed solar capacity continued to grow across Europe in 2011 despite a decline in subsidies for green energy continent-wide, according to a new report.

High-Altitude Wind Energy: Huge Potential — And Hurdles

UK Waste Treatment Plant Now Powered With Solar Energy

A waste treatment plant in Waterbeach, UK, is now being powered mostly with solar energy. Lightsource Renewable Energy Limited and Solarcentury have jointly developed the photovoltaic (PV) 5MW project that will provide 70 percent of AmeyCespa’s Mechanical Biological Treatment plant in the small village in the region of Cambridgeshire.
