The South Korean government has announced that it intends to invest $35.4 billion in the renewable energy sector over the next five years as it aims at reducing its dependence on fossil fuels and build a green economy for the future.

Google has announced that it has signed an agreement to invest in the development of a backbone wind energy transmission project off the Mid-Atlantic coast.

The U.S. could generate 20 percent of its electricity from wind energy by 2030 if it develops offshore wind farms in the coastal waters of 26 states, according to a report by the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL). The world’s largest wind farm, which will boost Britain’s capacity to generate wind power by more than 30 percent, has opened off the coast of Kent. The Thanet wind farm, operated by the Swedish company Vattenfall, contains 100 turbines and will ultimately have 341 turbines capable of generating enough electricity for 200,000 households.
