With these words, the team that presented the “Windstalk concept” at the 2010 Land Art Generator Initiative competition described the aesthetics of a project that gave them the second place mention from the jury. Deere & Co., (NYSE: DE) the parent company of John Deere, said last week it would be selling off its energy division.
Deere said it will sell its wind power division, called John Deere Renewables, including all of its farms in eight states, to energy giant Exelon Corp (NYSE: EXC) for $900 million. The deal calls for $860 million now, (more…)

We are not ones for pessimism, so we’ll call this the character-building period of the PACE campaign. The California Energy Commission has just announced that they are putting their PACE program on hold. (Read more here). We have scant time before the August congressional recess. Ample blame exists for the demise of climate legislation in the U.S. Senate, from President Obama’s lack of political courage, to the environmental community’s overly ambitious strategy, to Republican intransigence. A way forward exists, however, to build on the rubble of the Senate’s failure to cap carbon emissions. (more…)

On Monday the International Energy Agency (IEA) released its latest country report on France. These reports are generally issued every five years.
Although France has not been immune to the global economic downturn, the climate change plan known as the Grenelle de l’Environnement is still considered by the IEA as having “many positive provisions”.
Indeed, the government is willing to cut by a factor of four the country’s carbon dioxide emissions by 2050 (compared to 1990 levels). (more…)
