The new head of Australia’s Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) expects the fund to make its first investment on track by July next year. The fund was set up by the Labor government to invest A$10 billion (US$10.4 billion) in renewable energy, energy efficiency and low emissions technologies, but its existence is tenuous with elections next year in Australia and Tony Abbott (more…)

This year has been an unusually severe one for wildfires in the U.S., with more than 9.1 million acres of land burned through the end of November, federal officials say.

Brazil has said a row over carbon credits could derail the United Nations climate change negotiations taking place in Qatar this week.

The European Union has been committed for years to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent by 2020 (compared to 1990).
As we have seen in a recent article, reaching such targets is very plausible and wouldn’t need much additional effort from the 15 historic members nor the enlarged 27 countries Union. (more…)
