General Electric (GE) recently announced that it would take a 90% stake in Converteam for US$3.2B. Converteam’s core technology focus is on converters and grid interconnect equipment for solar and wind as well as permanent magnet generators / motors for wind turbines and propulsion systems. (more…)

General Electric has announced plans to build the nation’s largest photovoltaic panel factory, a major piece in the company’s new $600 million investment in solar technology.
GE is considering several locations for the 400-megawatt plant, which would begin producing thin-film photovoltaic panels, made of cadmium telluride, by 2013. (more…)

About 5 percent of the world’s natural gas production is squandered each year through gas flaring, a process in which unused gas is burned while drilling for oil, a new analysis by General Electric has found.

As part of Brazil’s 2010 Alternative Energy Auctions, GE (NYSE: GE) today announced deals with four developers to supply more than 400 megawatts of wind-generated electricity to the Brazilian grid. These commitments will be for 258 of GE’s 1.5 and 1.6-megawatt wind turbines.

If I were the new CEO of Chevron, I would stop listening to the lawyers and bring the engineers into the boardroom to develop a strategy to invest a good portion of last year’s record $24 billion profit into inventing solutions to the adverse environmental and social impacts of the company’s operations around the globe.
It is clear that Chevron’s historical reliance upon litigation to get what it wants is being eclipsed by new activist strategies that have effectively boxed Chevron into a corner.
